GREETINGS TO ALL WMCC MEMBERS
The Board of Directors of the Wichita Mountains Climbers Coalition is excited to announce the retooling of the WMCC for the purposes of improving the effectiveness of the organization, strengthening the bonds within our local climbing community, and ensuring the continuing success of our mission to protect the climbing and natural resources of the Wichita Mountains.
Established in 1996, the WMCC has successfully represented and served our local climbing community at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and at Quartz Mountain Nature Park by working in partnership with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and State of Oklahoma to ensure the future of rock climbing in the Wichitas. Through important conservation efforts, such as environmental education, trail building, land acquisition, and fixed anchor management, the WMCC has worked diligently to protect our climbing freedoms, wilderness adventures, and the unique and outstanding natural environment that is such an important part of our climbing experiences in the Wichitas.
The success of the WMCC is due in large part to the dedication and efforts of our members and others in the local climbing community who have selflessly donated their time, skills, energy and money to our many efforts. Thanks to all of you, the fabulous climbing opportunities found in the Wichitas remain secure for current and future generations to discover and experience.
As we celebrate the 15th anniversary of our founding, we recommit ourselves to the important goals and purposes originally set out in our charter more than a decade ago. Beginning with a new logo and website design and this fresh Update for our members, in the weeks and months ahead be watching for more news and information as we work to refocus and reenergize the WMCC and our local climbing community. Those efforts will include new logo decals for our membership, a redesigned e-version of our Exposure newsletter, new members to the Board of Directors, and new volunteer projects at the Refuge and Quartz.
With Fall upon on us, we can’t think of better way to celebrate our past and look to our future than by sharing in the fun, adventure and camaraderie at the 2011 Quartz Fall Gathering taking place this weekend, November 4th-6th, at Baldy Point at Quartz Mountain Nature Park. We hope to see many of there. For more information about the event, please visit the Quartz Mountain section of the Forum on the WMCC website.
A big thanks to all of you from the Board for your years of dedication and support.
